Light fixtures on an airfield cannot afford to perform at sub-optimal levels. ICAO defines precise serviceability levels for CAT operations, based on the maximum tolerable number of failed lights in the different circuits. Pre-emptive and efficient monitoring of airfield lights to ensure safe and reliable airport performance is thus a necessity and helping airports achieve this is the Individual Light Control and Monitoring System (ILCMS). ILCMS based on Power Line Communication (PLC) technology uses existing power cables to send data/communicate with a central monitoring system. In this manner, it controls the ‘on’ ‘off’ of airfield lights – individually or in a group and maintains a real-time check on their operating performance, increasing overall safety and reliability
